The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity was founded upon the core principles of truth, honor and friendship. The True Gentleman is our creed which further enunciates our commitment to these principles and provides a pathway to lifetime membership and brotherhood. Over the years, two alumni associations have been chartered to support the activities, events and camaraderie of our alumni members.
SAE and Maryland Beta --
75 years and counting!
These include both the College Park, Maryland Area Alumni Association and the Maryland Beta Chapter Alumni Association. You may click on either Alumni Association's name to be redirected to its page on our web site.
The first type of alumni association (area) was established with the goal of providing activities, events and support for alumni within the greater College Park region. This association type is open to all SAE alumni (from any chapter) who reside within the region (although no formal barriers exist). The second type of alumni association (chapter) was established with the goal of providing activities, events and support for the Maryland Beta chapter (although nothing prevents alumni from other chapters from participating).
Our chapter is always looking for additional alumni volunteers who can help foster and support the growth of these alumni associations, serve on the Alumni Advisory Board, House Corporation board and/or assist with advising the chapter in various facets.
The Greek Centennial Reception at Homecoming 2013 was hosted by UMD President, Wallace D. Loh at University House on October 27, and was attended by alumni Ed Downey '52, Daniel Gladding (Salisbury) '78, John Lauer '63 and chapter Eminent Archon/President Elect, Logan Connor '14. Over 300 Greeks attended this special event as Maryland's Centennial Year of Greek Life is kicked off and celebrated.
Seven Centennial Honor Roll Honorees were named on April 27, 2014 as part of DFSL's celebration of 100 years of Greek life on the University of Maryland Campus. Each Greek Letter organization earned one honoree slot for every 10 years they remained active on campus. SAE is proud to boast of our seven honorees:
